(Extras from: Miami Poems)
I'm glad to see the ocean again
Looking down at water's pitch
I've gotten hungry and eager
The same summer blues re-dreamed, re-lived
Relieved, stepping out of my skin
Not trapped but at ease again within
Nothing fancy or missing or lame, though
Habitually grounding out, and intent on playing a game
“Haha”, laughs the rain, drops
“Dog”, barks the man, and walks away
The moment gave-up before the start
Time could catch me, us apart
Screaming in involuntary panic
Peace came in white-flagged surrender
What it did to trust, and confidence
Only a mother can forgive, Mary, me
Women sigh, impatient with men
Men just wave, atop fantasy
Meet me at the station, around twelve o’clock
Meet me wishing for another shot
Humanity weighs me down, but
Human is the best thing to be
For that which is not God is just
A creation, and humans got that
Meal ticket of dominion, oof, yeah
It's free, but costs life and living
Ain't quite free of forms of payment
Even time costs time, love takes mine
And makes it ours, and yours is now my concern
And you can turn that upside down
And hang it on a diamond-ringed finger
You can hear your favorite singer skipped over for impatient brooding
But there's nothing really to say
That's part of the arrangement, a pre-made bouquet for the banquet
Flowers which sprout and bloom, then get thrown out, wilted, as rubbish
Cast away, failed to maintain value, I certainly tried
And you see a world full of lovers constantly strive for another other
A runaway shadow to seek after
An amazing experience completely planned out amidst this perfect world full of chaos and unsure of itself
Tired of cosmetic battles between feeble-minded men and their nations
Lines drawn in sand and grass, desperate and fearful aspirations
Taken beyond their inherent limitations
‘Holy cow’ can just about sum up that shared publicly-felt, private frustration
Don't kiss me goodbye, kiss me hello please
I need your love baby like some folks need the snow
But my love is in the desert with my soul, scorched by the sun
Burnt to a crispness edible and reject-able
Affinity a screen between me and you, and time, and all the things I saw and ran away from in my prime
A sprinter amidst thick branches, while roots kept my sanity, and culture my mind
I scraped by, I chose a pilot's flight and kept notes
Didn't want to drown after crashing with a sticky throat closed and dry
Blistered, wet with death and just a moment suspended between heaven and sea
And the end claiming rights, I'll fight, I'll scream
I'll behave if it's right, run me thru with what's real one time
Just give me hope, show care
So I don't forget her(e) and cry, catch the tears, love this face
The stage for God to play a single act of recognition and have peace
And so I have peace too, and you, please
Dis-grace
Even her hand is enchanting
Holding a fork, her family sitting quiet and still
Mr. Comb-over with two old witches, plus her sister plain and fine
But she, she cuts through the air like time
Each line too perfect to see, too sharp to focus on
Glass bubble cheeks rose-kissed, the sweetness of her hair
Chewy hips and so tall, and.......
Her silhouette, pursed, moves like a crescent moon, well-rehearsed
Elegantly, like embers smoldering, smoke burning my eyes
Her fire branding my mind, life purified by white heat and grace
Just so so so so so so great, her beauty
That girl, oh man!
Everybody's gone man, at 3:43pm
And the same time AM, everyone's asleep
But still there's fear, with just a few souls
Of their hearts is born criticism, for what they don't know
All the worst comes from inside us, the best from without
We could all stand to filter, to trust and to doubt
Doubt the separation, between us and our kind
And trust the whole of nature, made by the Father of time
I'll swallow the ocean, I'll live by myself
Just to see you listen, just please hear me out
The woman in the blue dress, her daughter, and her nanny walking the dog
